In the year 2005, 80% of the built environment of the city of Pass Christian was devastated by hurricane Katrina.

As a response to the damaging effects of Hurricane Katrina; rediscovering the typology of a Community Center for the city of Pass Christian acquired a new meaning.

The new typology of this building merges two programs :: Community
Center + Refuge = Maximize the use of
the building before, during, and after any natural emergency. In this design the various areas of the Community Center can be easily adapted to work as an equipped refuge.

The shape of the building allows, (in case of a new emergency), the excess of water and wind to flow easily through the structure without damaging
